For this Video Feature, we're taking a look at "A Drunkard's Lifetime", the latest single from Gainesville-based band Mike & The Nerve. Blending the worlds of folk, pop, and punk rock, this is a catchy track that leaves the listener wanting more.
Started as a solo project by musician Mike Llerena, the idea quickly transformed into a full band before embarking on live shows and recorded music. Llerena explains “The name ‘The Nerve’ refers to both the idea of nervous energy and having ‘the nerve’ to go and do things that seem personally insurmountable, both of which are topics referenced in a lot of the band’s lyrics."
There's an almost singalong innocence that's present through this track, reminiscent of an Americana style that builds from a heavier full-band instrumental. "While the lyrics refer to this in a more post-relationship/break-up context, the song title refers to a long-term alcoholic and the long journey they undergo toward sobriety," says frontman Mike Llerena... Powerful stuff right there. By the time the track is over, all you want to do is dive right back in and experience it again.
We added this track to our Underground Punk playlist on Spotify. Make sure to follow Mike & The Nerve to stay on top of what they have going on. You can check out the music video for their new tune below!
