80s new wave, dark electronic synthwave, modern indie rock, and a hint of grungey punk coalesce in the latest single from synthwave pop duo Gone Sugar Die. “I Won’t Fight For You” takes the classic breakup trope and transforms it into something otherworldly through impeccable genre mixing and studio production.
We hear emotive orchestral strings, driving indie guitar, subtle bass, sturdy pithy drumming, and a steady stream of nostalgic, almost purposefully kitschy production atop it all. The vocals are a nice narrative touch - something pleasantly easy to absorb that invites us inside the creators’ minds. Gone Sugar Die’s writing forges a new, at times perilous path, but with distinct trails intersecting the old styles on which the band was founded, resulting in a sound that is both safely familiar and curiously uncharted - a winning combo.
We added this track to a top slot of our Underground Indie & Alternative playlist on Spotify. Check out the music video for “I Won’t Fight For You” below and follow Gone Sugar Die for more band updates.
