THE CAROLYN RELEASES NEW SINGLE - "EMPTY. HOLLOW. OVER."

There's a place in Georgia called Stone Mountain. This name is a bit of a misnomer because it's not a mountain at all, in so much as it was not pushed up by underground activity, the surrounding earth simply eroded away around it, leaving it exposed and isolated. (Weren't expecting a geology lesson in a music review, were ya?)
THE CAROLYN's new single empty. hollow. over. is about the same force: erosion. On first listen, it's a well-written, somewhat sad and thoughtful punk rock song, but the lyrics suggest something more profound. Stay with me here.
A new relationship forms, it's hopeful and full of dreams and big ideas. However, over time, forces like addiction and unease creep in, and before one realizes what is happening, everything positive is stripped away. One day both parties stop to take stock of what remains, and realize there's nothing left of the once fertile, hopeful ground on which the relationship stood. All that's left standing is a lone, hardened rock where nothing new can grow. Bit of a downer, I admit, but THE CAROLYN do an inspired job of conveying that feeling of abject despair, of being alone, together. It's poignant, touching and heartfelt, and definitely worth at least a few listens.
We added the single to our Underground Punk playlist on Spotify.
