PASH RASH RELEASES NEW SINGLE - "I DRINK WINE NOW"
“I Drink Wine Now” by PASH RASH is a low-fi, mid-tempo punk/hardcore song about, well, the merits of drinking wine, really. There’s no nonsense, no flowery, thinly-veiled metaphor, just a straight-forward tune that I actually really enjoyed.
But if I may scratch just slightly beneath the surface, I think it’s about getting older and accepting it gracefully. Hell, I’ve spent 20 years fronting a wild, hard-partying punk band and recently I’ve gotten sober, started using reading glasses and I now have begun to enjoy birdwatching, cooking and gardening, of all things. It takes a certain kind of comic disposition to not recoil in horror and disgust, but to march steadfast and proudly toward that AARP card and early-bird specials, and it’s worthy of respect.
The song makes some good points too: wine is cheap and plentiful. Thriftiness is, after all, next to godliness. Also, it pairs nicely with good food, which is not only a new senior-adjacent hobby but also inherently thrifty. There’s a somewhat problematic line that says, “I drink wine now, even though it’s gay/every single day.” And, all modern nuances aside, I disagree. I would offer that it is much more pretentious and posh than ‘gay’, but ‘pretentious’ doesn’t rhyme with ‘day’ so I’ll begrudgingly allow it. Overall it’s a funny, rocking ear worm of a tune and I found it thoroughly enjoyable. (Jesus wept, I’m even starting to use pretentious words-wtf is happening?)
