Ain't music grand? Aren't songs just the best? One of the most beautiful things about them is that a particular lyric or sentiment may be very personal to the songwriter AND the listener, sometimes for completely different reasons. The most important part is that they both arrive at the same destination: catharsis. Songs can be a jacket that fits every wearer, keeps them equally warm and makes them all feel BETTER.
GRAVE SECRETS' new offering, "Take Your Pictures Back," is just such a song. The band included a brief explanation, so I know what it means to the writer, and it's truly touching. But I can listen, apply the song to my own experiences or daily struggles, and feel a different but equal release, a strongly similar swell of encouragement and well-being.
A simple, albeit very well-executed pop-punk song can cross oceans, can transcend languages and cultural divides and resonate the same way every time. That's the mark of a good songwriter, a talented band, and a song worth listening to. Bravo, GRAVE SECRETS. Keep em coming, and thanks, I needed that.
