DAY X DAY RELEASES NEW SINGLE - "DOWN FOR THE THREE COUNT"

One thing I really enjoy about modern music is the mixing of genres. Back in the before time, in the days of flip phones and myspace, it was almost expected that bands had to stay in their lane, to keep churning out song after song that "sounded like their old stuff" or "fit the genre".
Well, it's a new dawn, my friends, and bands like Day X Day can blend hardcore, metalcore and hip hop without fear of being shunned. Hell, they can even throw in some beats and no one bats an eye. And this is a good thing-it's the nature of art to become stale and overdone, and it's the nature of progression to find new avenues of self-expression. Don't get me wrong-"Down for the Three Count" is still a mainly metalcore track, brutal and pummeling in its delivery, but it seamlessly includes rap and hip hop beats without, well, missing a beat, as it were.
Dense breakdowns and screamed/growled lyrics about getting back up in the face of adversity aren't a new idea, but this band gives the format a new angle, much in the same way Slipknot incorporated break beats and differing vocal styles in their early work.
And I know what you're thinking: bands have been doing this for years, but I'm old and creaky, and I remember a time when this genre-blending of this nature would've had gatekeepers up in arms, and I'm just glad to see that those days are behind us.
