Sydney alt-rock band Watching Wolves have just released a heartbreaking new single entitled “Mayflower.” It recalls and heightens a range of emotions the band experienced after recently losing a very close friend. The raw lyrics and intense vocal delivery truly convey anguish, pain, sadness, and even despondency, while the supporting metalcore style instrumentation correspondingly transitions from a quieter, contemplative opening verse to heavier, pleading verses, and finally a grief-stricken chorus. We have great respect for artists like this that are able to channel such difficult, raw emotion into an artistic medium that may provide some catharsis not only for the artists themselves, but also for all those who experience the art.
We added this track to the top slot of our Heavy Heavy Heavy playlist on Spotify. Listen to “Mayflower” below and then check out the rest of Watching Wolves’ online discography, including a new heartfelt acoustic version of a previously released single.
