Bold, balanced, and flavorful probably describes your favorite beer, and it also describes the latest single from Long Island punk legends-in-the-making Playing Heroes. “Kill Roy: A Life Well Lived” unfolds with a never-ending wave of keening guitars washed over big reverb-laden drums. The lead vocals strike just the right balance of melodic pop, aggressive edge, and expressivity, at once fortified by impressively written backing/gang vocals.
The band’s online bio describes their sound as pop punk, but in this track we hear a hint of classic emo music within a larger, more powerful rush that combines aspects of hardcore punk and metalcore. It’s fearless and brazenly individual - 5 stars.
We added this track to our Underground Punk playlist on Spotify. Check out the music video below, then follow Playing Heroes for more band news.
