“Touching Down” is the latest single from Essex based indie band Ocean Flaws. Opening with vaporwave synth tones and simple drum machine, the track becomes immediately reminiscent of 80s new wave with the entrance of dark husky vocals. Crunchy bass, jingly lead guitar, and oscillating synth ambience throughout the track provide a great soundscape for the new wave style vocal and instrumental hooks. Catchy electric guitar leads and double time tambourine near the end of the track provide an upbeat fade out to a short and sweet bop.
We can really hear the chronology of Essex new wave from Modern English’s “I Melt with You” in 1982 to Ocean Flaws’ more modern take on the genre with this 2021 release. Maybe there’s something about Essex, those cheeky accents, and ear-catching indie synth music.
We're not sure what the band has planned next, but we're really excited to hear more. We added this track to the top slot of our Underground Indie & Alternative playlist on Spotify. Make sure to follow Ocean Flaws to see what else they have going on. Check out their new music video for the track below!
