Los Angeles outfit Love Ghost have just released their newest single entitled “Shine Like Gold,” a thoughtful hip hop crossover style track bearing honest emotive writing. The low key vibe of this track immediately eases us into a contemplative state. A hip hop backing track of light trappy drums, smooth bass, and subtle electric guitar in the verses broadens with indie rock guitar and sustained synth tones for an elevated chorus. The heavier last half of the track, with more aggressive vocals and quicker drumming, especially drives home the song’s narrative of hidden pain and regret, despite its cool exterior.

The music video effortlessly mirrors the track’s introspective mood with Polaroid-style framing and faded filters capturing scenes of friends hanging out at an understated SoCal beach. The song is short and bittersweet, leaving us to reflect on the things that could have been.
