DIRTY HYMNS RELEASE NEW SINGLE - "FAFO"

Calling out people in power. Cretins, buffoons, philanderers

It's the backbone of musical movements like punk and as always, I'm here for it. There's nothing wrong with a happy song, or one about love or drinking with your friends. Hell, those are refreshing and they serve to give us some welcome respite from the daily shitshow that surrounds us. A little R & R is always welcome amidst a sea of IPO's, B & E's, DUI's, DOA's and the tedious flood of BS, but to exercise the creative freedom of music to strike at the heart of hypocrisy, to loudly say what most others are only thinking, now that's a different use of art. Edgier, more dangerous, and more powerful in many ways, and I respect that.

Which brings me neatly around to the new offering by Dirty Hymns, "FAFO", (which is, by the way, a piece of modern vernacular that was begging to be used as a song title.) The vocals are delivered via an almost shouted spoken word-style, a la Black Flag or Amyl and the Sniffers. Sleaford Mods but trading in the turntables for a nice, driving punk beat. That provides more than enough framework for the interesting, slightly arrhythmic vocal delivery. And what's this? Is that a sample I hear sneaking in occasionally? Nice. Nice.

"Paparazzi Politics? Nazi Fascist fucking pricks?" "The second amendment is a priveledge?" Indeed it is sir, and we all need to be reminded from time to time. Music can be a safe, legal Xanax when you're low or a metaphorical line of blow that'll pep you up without the empty wallet and nosebleeds, but it can also be a hammer to the kneecaps of the powers that be, and songs like this make sure we don't forget it.

Also, there's a sweet Tom Morello-style guitar run and I'm always a sucker for some well-placed noodling.

If you need a little burst of well-deserved indignation, Dirty Hymns have you covered.

Now stop reading and go listen.
