Illinois-based alt-rockers, Murnau, recently dropped their new album, "Cellophane Radio". Boasting an anthemic blend of styles, this is a 7 track banger that keeps you engaged from the first second until the last. Elements of grunge, alt-rock, post-punk, and more smash together to leave the listener with a dynamic and refreshing set of songs that can be tough to take off repeat. What a release!
Originally formed in high school, Murnau is a two-piece that has been playing together for 17 years. We're not sure what's more impressive, the fact that these two friends have been playing together for almost 20 years or the fact that they're delivering walls of melodic sounds with only two members. Regardless, this album completely rips and we're so happy we got to experience it. As always, we asked the band to give us a breakdown of the tracks on the album.
"Baltic Sea and Primroses introduce and end the album for a reason. The album goes through all sorts of moods and emotions, but these two tracks encompass both sides with the poppier Baltic Sea to the dark and more aggressive Primroses.
Then there's Dalia right in the middle because we can't release an album without a long, dynamic track. It's become a staple in many of our live sets since we wrote it. I don't like to explain meanings behind the songs. They are up for interpretation and the meaning an individual listener places on a song or lyric, is just as valid as why I wrote it."
We love this description because there's an interesting vibe that each track gives off. If you really sit down and dig in, you'll find yourself reaching different interpretations of the songs each time you listen through. The band also really shines here by crafting a journey that doesn't feel too short. At 7 songs long, this album still feels very full. It's obvious this isn't their first rodeo, but it's also still very impressive to hear this level of songwriting from a lesser-known band. This is why the underground music scene kicks ass!
We added our personal favorite track, "Repent" to our Underground Indie & Alternative playlist on Spotify. You can jam the new album in its entirety below. If you like what you hear, make sure to follow Murnau to stay on top of future releases!
